Hi all!

This week in the sketchbook I’ve been trying to translate some of my recent photos into sketches. We recently went on a backpacking trip up to Lake Katherine above Santa Fe, N.M. It’s an amazingly beautiful (and popular) destination in the area. I was happy we were able to complete it, it was a tough hike with overnight gear!

We started from the Pecos side of the mountain, which is new to me, as I’ve done the Santa Fe side before. I found this trip to be a little easier overall, and definitely can be done in a day trip with limited gear to slow you down. Although both directions are challenging hikes with steep terrain.

I brought my sketchbook with me, but honestly I was too beat to draw up there. I am going to start to draw more on location stuff in the future. I find it works better than looking at photos.

Over the next few weeks I am going to share more sketches of various things this month. I have been posting a lot more finished work, but I think this blog needs to have a lot more works in progress on it. Stay tuned and let me know what you’re up to! Have Fun!
